The only certainty with the Brexit thus far is uncertainty and with uncertainty brings change, especially when it comes to careers. The aptOn team will be in London tomorrow and Friday of this week speaking with candidates seeking a move to Ireland.

Since the announcement on Friday that Britain has voted to leave the European Union we have had countless calls with talent based in Britain seeking advice on career opportunities available to them in Ireland.

Many economic analysts are predicting the likelihood of a conservative approach to be taken by businesses in Britain for the remainder of 2016 and 2017.So what is the likely effect of a conservative approach from businesses have on technology, sales & marketing professionals?

Technology candidates:

Typically we see candidates motivated by the technical challenge, working with the latest technology and innovating for the future. Our clients put a valuation on exposure and experience with the newest technology, so if companies are not investing, candidates are not improving thus worth less in the employment market.

Sales candidates:

Typically motivated by commercial recognition, with the likely reduction on spending by businesses impacting sales professionals performance, this will have a huge impact given that the standard remuneration is split between a basic salary of 60% and a commission target accounting for the remainder of their 40% total earnings.

Marketing candidates:

Typically driven by the possibility to influence the performance of an entire business with ideas and concepts. The conservative approach will lead to frustration from marketers as budget approval will restrict them.

So where is the opportunity for Ireland?

We are the closest English speaking European Union member, we are a driving force for technology and innovation, we domicile some of the world’s leading companies, such as Google, Apple and Facebook. I believe the greatest competitive advantage in today’s market is talent and as such companies in Ireland should be maximising their efforts to attract this newly available pool of talent.
